- What grades does your school serve?
Christian Brothers School serves boys in grades 5, 6 and 7.
- Is Christian Brothers School an Archdiocesan school?
Christian Brothers School is a privately owned school - owned by the
Christian Brothers of the New Orleans - Santa Fe Province.
It is not owned by the
Archdiocese of New Orleans
. However, it does fall under the umbrella of the Archdiocese of New Orleans since it is a
Catholic school. As a result, it does have a working relationship with the Archdiocese of
New Orleans and its Office of Catholic Schools.
- What is the curricular program like?
The curricular program seeks to meet the needs of the academically capable middle
school boy in the metropolitan New Orleans area. As a result, each class is grade-level
accelerated. That is, the 5th graders study on the 6th grade level, the 6th graders at the
7th grade level, and the 7th graders at the 8th grade level.
- What elementary schools did CBS students attend?
Christian Brothers students come from approximately 40 different elementary schools
across the metropolitan New Orleans area. They come from parochial, private and public
schools. The majority of the students have attended parochial elementary schools in the
Metairie, Kenner and Lakeview areas.
- How do I collect an application and when should I apply?
Applications may be acquired by contacting a school representative in the school office
at 486-6770. An applicant should apply during the Fall Semester preceding the school
year he wishes to be admitted to Christian Brothers School.
- What is admission based upon?
The admissions process is competitive simply because the number of applicants far
exceeds the number of available spaces. As a result, an admissions committee will review
an applicant's report cards, standardized test scores, conduct grades, attendance record,
admission test scores and responses entered on the student application. The most
qualified applicants will be invited to attend Christian Brothers School. Some
applicants who are quality applicants but were simply outscored by other applicants
will be entered into a waiting pool. If an invited applicant declines his invitation to
attend CBS, then an applicant from the waiting pool will be invited to attend.
- When do I find out if I have been accepted to Christian Brothers School?
Applicants are notified via the mail in late January. Specifically, letters are mailed each
year during the week of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
- How does the waiting pool work?
Students who are not initially invited to attend CBS but are quality candidates will be
entered into the waiting pool. It is not a list. It is a pool. That is, the members are not
ranked. When (If) a spot becomes available, the admissions committee will review the
applications of those applicants still remaining in the waiting pool and invite the most
qualified at that time. The waiting pool tends to change throughout the year as members
withdraw for various reasons, have a change of plans or decline a subsequent invitation.
It is precisely for these reasons (frequent changes), that the members of the waiting pool
are not ranked and placed on some sort of priority list.
- Do siblings or sons of alumni get priority in the admissions process?
Siblings and sons of alumni are special to the CBS family. As a result, their applications
are given additional consideration. However, as a matter of fairness to all applicants,
these applicants are not guaranteed admission to CBS.
- When is the annual Open House?
It is usually scheduled for the last Wednseday in October. Contact the school office for
the specific date and time.
- When is the admissions test and application deadline?
The admissions test is administered on the second Saturday in December. The
deadline for applying is noon the day before. Contact the school office for specific dates
and times.
- What is the tuition rate and is financial aid available?
The current tuition rate is $5,500 per student. In addition, each student can expect another
$375 in fees. Additional fees may be incurred depending on the activities that a student
participates in. Financial aid is available. Families needing financial aid must apply for it
in the Spring Semester preceding the school year for which they are seeking
fiancial assistance.
- Are there additional fund raising events?
The school and Christian Brothers Foundation sponsor the following events throughout
the school year: a membership drive in the Winter and a Gala/Auction - Golf Tournament in the Spring. Participation
in each 'of these events is optional. The school does not have a fair, raffles, candy sales, wrapping paper sales,
or the like.
